Tanks Full Of Liquid Asphalt, Used Motor Oil Catch Fire At Montgomery County Industrial Site

The tanks went up in flames at 13900 Piney Meetinghouse Road near Travilah Road (FO Day Industries) in Rockville shortly before 11:50 a.m., MCFRS Spokesperson Pete Piringer said.

The blaze involved several oil tanks containing liquid asphalt and used motor oil, prompting a response by HazMat crews in the area.

The fire was put under control with several crews still at the scene to monitor smoke conditions as of about 1:15 p.m., Piringer said.

The blaze caused volcano-like smoke that could be "seen for miles," according to local media crews:
